Post-harvest loss prevention
Protecting harvests, preserving livelihoods

A hidden challenge with global consequences
Every year, millions of tonnes of food are lost after harvest—before they ever reach a market, a family, or a plate. This quiet but damaging loss reduces farmers’ income, weakens food systems, and wastes land, water, and labour already stretched by climate pressures.
In sub-Saharan Africa alone, up to 20% of cereals stored after harvest are lost. In some crops and regions, losses are even higher—undermining livelihoods and limiting the impact of agricultural investments.
According to the World Bank and Rockefeller Foundation, reducing post-harvest loss could help feed 1 billion more people—without expanding farmland or increasing emissions.
The need for safe storage
After harvest, grains are often stored for months before they are sent on for sale or processing. But poor storage exposes them to pests, moisture, mould, and heat. For smallholder farmers, one infestation can mean the loss of a whole season’s income and months of food.
Without access to safe, affordable storage, many are left with few options.

A science-based storage solution
Drawing on our background in material science innovation for global health, we developed a practical, science-based solution to help farmers protect their harvests. ZeroFly storage bags pair physical durability with proven insect control for safe, effective, and easy-to-use crop preservation, even in tough conditions—no chemical treatments required.
