PermaNet® Dual

State-of-the-art malaria protection

Our first dual active-ingredient net, PermaNet Dual is part of the latest generation of malaria control, combining two insecticides with different modes of action for superior efficacy in areas of high insecticide resistance.

In PermaNet Dual, deltamethrin (a pyrethroid) disrupts the mosquito’s nervous system, while chlorfenapyr (a pyrrole) disrupts mosquito energy production, killing even highly resistant mosquitoes.

Key features of PermaNet Dual

  • Pyrethroid–chlorfenapyr nets are the only class of nets with a strong recommendation from the World Health Organization for use in areas of high insecticide resistance

  • Data suggest pyrethroid–chlorfenapyr nets can reduce malaria cases by up to 75% across 3 years of consistent use

  • Fastest manufacturing scale up in recent history to meet exceptional country demand

  • PermaNet Dual was prequalified by the World Health Organization in March 2023

Independent research validates the essential role of insecticide-treated nets

A recent analysis from the Malaria Atlas Project (MAP) confirms that insecticide-treated nets remain the most impactful malaria prevention tool globally, responsible for 72% of malaria cases averted over the last 25 years. The report also documents a steady rise in annual cases prevented by insecticide-treated nets—even as insecticide resistance increased—and highlights the meaningful contribution of pyrethroid-chlorfenpyr nets introduced in recent years.

Although the MAP report does not reference specific brands, its findings underscore the importance of high-quality, durable insecticide-treated nets and continued innovation to address evolving resistance. Our PermaNet portfolio incorporates these principles, offering WHO-prequalified solutions that support national malaria programmes around the world.

Helping nets last their full lifespan

When properly cared for, long-lasting insecticide-treated nets can remain effective for up to three years. This short animation was developed as a communication tool to support malaria programmes and partners in promoting correct care and use practices. Strengthening understanding at the community level helps ensure nets deliver their intended protection throughout their lifespan.
